Lake Eyasi: Hadzabe & Datoga Tribes

Lake Eyasi lies in the Rift Valley south-west of the Ngorongoro highlands. The Hadzabe who live here are among the last hunter-gatherers in Africa and speak a language that uses click sounds.

Starting at dawn, you can join a small group as they track game with bows and arrows, gather roots and berries, and make fire by hand. It is a rare chance to see a way of life that has changed very little over thousands of years.

Nearby, the Datoga are pastoralists known for their craftsmanship. Watch them turn scrap metal into arrowheads, jewellery and tools using traditional methods, and learn about their customs and dress.
